Pete Rock shows again that he’s a Tru Master with the beats. This is probably my favorite joint of his new instrumental album, Petestrumentals 2, available now via Mello Music Group. For those a little too young to remember, the first volume of this was released on BBE records in 2001, and featured some of Pete’s best work to date.
Producer Gensu Dean has been quiet for a minute after his collaborative album with Planet Asia (Abrasions) and then his production work for 7evenThirty (The Problem). As summer starts he wanted to let his fans know where he’s been musically by offering up an all new instrumental album for free. The 25 track record is meant to be a warm up to the new material Dean has coming late in 2015 and early in 2016.
“Heaven & Earth” is the newest single from Pete Rock. An introspective beat drawn up by the original master bringing in a piano and strings driven melody while trademark drum snaps and a rubbery bassline pushes through the background. It’s the type of joint that’ll catch you staring out the window at the city lost in thought – an emcee’s perfect canvas. Today, we thought we’d give it away as a free download as we start to gear up for the big release of “Petestrumentals 2″ that is less than a month away.
The new album comes out June 23rd on Mello Music Group.

Sooooo goooooood. With a title like that, how can you go wrong?! Sadly, there has been no vinyl release of this yet, so you can only obtain it in digital format. Still worth it!
I don't know why I like this track but I do. Sort of a spacey beat, with a touch of tolerable dubstep transformer modulations. I HATE the lyrics, the video, and everything else about it, but this instrumental could stand to have someone else's accapella on it.
Anthony Mills & Freddie Cruger aka Red Astaire team up for some goodness that is Wild Cookie. I can’t tell if this is an official video, but all I know is the big reverb on Anthony’s voice is what caught me. Amazing language all around, from the chorus to the lyrics. I need this on vinyl asap…
